About

The First Health Systems Design Summer School (HSDSS) is a one-week summer school where young researchers from all over the world come together to work on interdisciplinary projects around health systems design. The primary focus of the workshop is to connect participants from different research disciplines to peers with a shared interest in health systems while working on novel research projects. Participants are free to ideate research projects, whose preliminary results are presented at the end of the workshop.

The summer school originates from the initiative of the Health Systems Design Special Interest Group of the Design Society. The group has been formed with the goal of creating a space and building a community for researchers who are interested in the study of health systems design. This initiative builds on the perception there is a steadily increasing interest in this topic within and beyond the Design Society. Systems design research and practice has a lot to offer in actively tackling the major health challenges facing society, and the Design Society can play a key role in making this happen. The need to connect people and technology provides us with unprecedented opportunities that we would like to bring to the fore with this Special Interest Group.

The final two days of the summer school will be partially co-located with the 7th International Workshop on Health Systems Design Research. This workshop brings together the special interest group, comprising leading researchers that work on all aspects of systems design and engineering, from modelling, engagement, logistics, informatics to participatory methods. The students in the summer school will have a unique oppurtunity to interact with, learn from and present to this eminent group.
